What do you believe about evangelism? What you believe impacts the way you feel and how you act (or don’t act) in evangelism.
I have been involved in discussing evangelism with Christian for many years and believe there are three myths that we hold surrounding this topic. They are:
- Evangelism is about us.
- Effective Evangelism takes place in an event.
- The people who lead people to Christ are the really important ones in evangelism.
These lies bring with them the shame, guilt, fear, pressure, and confusion that surrounds most of our involvement in evangelism.
Three corresponding truths set us free to the freedom, clarity, and joy God intends for us to experience in evangelism. (Do you know the word most often associated with evangelism in the New Testament is joy!)
- God brings about effective evangelism not us.
- Effective evangelism is about a process not an event.
- God assigns different roles in the process, each of which is important.
