Sports are broken. All sports. All levels.
We don’t have to go far to see this REALITY.
- Lance Armstrong and Alex Rodriquez’s doping schemes
- Oklahoma States’ Marcus Smart pushing a fan
- Friday Night Tykes
In the recognition of this REALITY, there have been attempts to deal with this brokenness.
- Signs posted to correct spectator behavior.
- Books written about the impact of this brokenness on children and youth.
- Codes of conduct have been developed by sports clubs.
At CSO, we applaud these efforts. At the same time, we recognize the limitations of efforts like these. We contend we need more than a change in our behavior. We need a transformation in the way we play, coach, and watch sports.
To help facilitate such a transformation, we developed For the Love of the Game. This 3 part video series includes study handouts and discussion questions for use in small groups. Here is a 1 minute trailer of the video.
