I really got a lot out of the following quote:
“Real life change is a ‘process’. CSO continually talks about how relational outreach is the best approach in the sports ministry arena to reach people. But as you all know, it takes time and effort to building lasting, trusting, and deep relationships to allow for God’s word to penetrate the heart. During the process, the little things matter.
Everything we do in the “daily grind” has an impact on those we are trying to reach. By eliminating distractions (like poor communication, bad coaching, scheduling conflicts, trashed facilities) and doing the everything with excellence, we are creating the best opportunity for our participants to hear the ‘real’ message of Christ we are attempting to communicate in various ways.”
It comes from this post from a partner named Scott Tyson. This speaks volumes to sports ministry and obstacles that can come up so easily in this field. Maybe because the Enemy has a firm grip on sports and he doesn’t like sports ministers who are trying to help redeem the industry!
“Real life change” certainly is a “process” and takes God’s timing. It’s His perfect timing and His sovereign Grace that will bring about that change. We’re impatient though, we want the change to be quick and painless. Fortunately for us, that’s not how God works all the time.
Deut. 31:6, that’s what it’s about. We want to reach those we’re pouring into, and want them to see how God is after them. Yet we can’t forget who He is also after just as much.
With God’s measureless love, He seeks us and wants us to turn back around. He already was facing us, yet we constantly try to run the other direction. His Grace keeps flowing out and we can only be thankful and (hopefully) accept it.
