CSO has had a long-term relationship with Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, SC and their sports ministry, ROAR. ROAR is engaged in a number of sports ministry initiatives including Youth Basketball, Youth Soccer, Youth Flag Football, Youth Baseball and Youth Cheerleading. Additionally, they offer Adult Basketball and Soccer.
Brent Williams has recently been hired as the new Director of ROAR and we recently caught up with him to discuss the impact CSO has had on their ministry:
How did you first get involved with CSO? What was that experience like?
I knew of CSO when I was in Atlanta with Camp All American and but did not become involved until I moved up to Rock Hill last September as the ROAR Director. I meet with Bob Schindler first and it was an awesome experience because he made me feel very welcomed and invested in my life
What are you most excited about right now in your ministry?
I am very excited to see how God is moving in our ministry with our new competitive edge soccer program and summer camps!!!
Can you share a story of a life that has been changed through your ministry?
I have not been here very long but I do know how 2 coaches who are with us that have come back to church because of the “More than Coach” training and involvement with our church!!
How has CSO helped your ministry? Where would you be without CSO?
CSO has done wonders for our ministry as a whole. I know it has had a huge impact on ROAR overall but just even in the last year since I have been here, Bob and the CSO staff have really taken me under their wing to help us along as new people. CSO has helped us start and enrich our “More than a Coach” class that takes all new coaches through a 4 hour class to teach about sports, life, and truth. CSO has even strengthened me personally as I lead this ministry and my family.
How have you personally grown as a result of your involvement with CSO?
I have personally grown more into a man. Why I say that is because they really challenge me to do what is best for God’s Kingdom and not me. Bob has been a great mentor ever since a been in Westminster and know it will only get better.
What would you say to a church that is considering joining the CSO Network? What encouragement/advice would you give them in regards to how CSO could help them?
I would say that if you are considering joining the CSO network, JUST DO IT!!! The whole staff is genuine and really wanting the best for your ministry. They will go out of their way to make sure that you are keeping on track with your ministry and personal relationship with God. I would like to also say that they will help you bring your ministry to the next level because of all their experience in starting and maintaining a sports ministry, they are the best
