Want to start up some interesting conversation? Float this question out into your next gathering, whatever kind it is. Whenever I have the opportunity to do this, I have never been disappointed and am always stimulated by the responses that quickly come.
Floating that question is what I want to do in this blog. Over several entries, I want to ask and answer this question and ask you to enter into the discussion.
In asking the question, I realize that some people think it is just a silly question and dismiss it immediately. In a CNN.com article entitled “When did God become a sports fan?”– the author quotes a British newspaper saying “Thanking God from the winner’s circle has become so common that one British newspaper published a letter to the editor entitled: “Leave me out of your petty games –Love, God.”
However, others realize the answer to the question cuts right to the heart of someone’s view of the character of God. In that light, I would ask you to wrestle with this question. Ask others to wrestle with it as well.
Let’s begin the dialogue. How would you answer the question? How have you heard others answer that question. Put your answers as a response to this blog. I will try to categorize your answers along with others I have received over the years of asking this question to individuals and groups, especially to our Leadership Center Theology of Competition Class students. I will report those answers back to you in this blog as well as my answer to this question.
