I came across this video, it’s actually a training video Chick-fil-A shows it’s employees. It’s such a great reminder of how everyone we encounter has a story to tell.
Similarly, the Engage! training that we provide churches provides some of this same insight.
We, as believers, have such a great opportunity to get to know the stories of people who are not connected with Christ in order to help their story move one step closer to him.
One of the great ways to find out someone’s story is to ask “How?” and “Why?” questions after you ask the person the “What?” and “Where?” questions that are so common in our conversations.
For example, after asking someone “Where do you work?”, you could ask “How did you get into that field?” Or “Why did you go into that field?” After asking someone “Where are you from?”, you could follow up that question with “How did you get to (where they live now)?”
In each case, the “How?” and “Why?” questions gives the person an opportunity to tell his or her story and for you to get to know them better, relate your story to theirs, and eventually the gospel as well.
