Tonight was a disaster.
We were on a mission to find a Christmas tree and make some nice family memories and the mission failed. We drove for miles to three different lots of trees, all closed because it was dark and pouring down rain. The kids fell asleep in the car when we finally found a tree at Lowe’s. It was too late to begin decorating, but we tried anyways through lots of tears and screaming. Ironically, the same disaster happened to our family last year. A failed attempt at an evening of Christmas memories.
The one difference between last year and this year was our reaction to the situation. Last year my husband and I were not even speaking to each other we were so frustrated. This year we “just rolled with it.” We took pictures of screaming kids throwing glass ornaments and pulling down lights from a wet tree and just laughed.
I have often had grand plans in my head of what a certain sports outreach event will look like. Disappointment sets in when little details do not work out as planned. So often I find myself consumed by what should be happening at a certain moment and am not engaged in what is happening right now. Sadly, I am sure ministry opportunities are missed.
Tonight was another reminder from God that He has planned everything to happen according to his will and like it or not, I need to learn to “just roll with it”.
