As a coach, I prefer positive motivation (encourage, build up, correct in love) over negative motivation (discourage, tear down, correct in fear). I would like to be compared with the likes of a Tony Dungy rather than a Bob Knight. Start encouraging your players more but using some of the phrases listed here (I’m sure there are more than 94).

- Impartiality This is a must, but you must remember that you must not treat everyone alike as they are all different. Give each one the treatment earned and deserved.
Coach Wooden on Basketball Practice
When you stop to make corrections, insist on strict attention. When I blow the whistle at the beginning of practice, I want the balls rolled to a designated area and no more dribbling or shooting. I don’t want to have to yell at them. I want them ready to listen attentively.
